My Walk this Week 223 – An Early Start

My walk this week returns to Three Cliffs Bay on the Gower Peninsula and a production walk for VR video – this is just a snippet of the sights and sounds we recorded.

Some of the images below are my own while a number of them were taken by my Co-Director at StillWalks®, Paul Allen.

NB I may not post for a couple of weeks after this as I will be away . . . but you never know!

My Walk this Week 129 – Rhossili from the Archives

My walk this week shows images from my archive and a walk along Rhossili Down at the end of the Gower Peninsula in South Wales.

For all the changes in environmental circumstances from day to day or even hour to hour, these photos from 2014 cannot show any potential differences in the underlying structure and general appearance of the place. The pace of change on a geological time scale is not the same as our lives and although it is true that we sometimes see rocks fall from a cliff or even cliffs collapse as a result of erosion from the sea, the overall changes can be almost imperceptible.Continue reading→

Soaring – Reviewing the Walk for the Old Mill Foundation

While the day was calm for our memorial for walk leader Mike Aspland and to raise funds for the Old Mill Foundation cancer hospice, there was enough lift for the soaring of hang gliders to take place in this popular spot for the activity – Rhossili Down at the end of the Gower Peninsula. Becalmed

The day was calm for the memorial walk for Mike Aspland to raise funds for the Old Mill Foundation cancer hospice and the sea was becalmed. The light and gentle patterns on the water along with the almost non existent change between sea and sky illustrate the atmospheric conditions perfectly. My walk this week is a walk in memory of Mike Aspland, a walk leader who died of cancer at the end of last year and had benefitted from the services provided by the Old Mill Foundation cancer hospice in Penclawdd on North Gower. Aberystwyth Amble – Reviewing the Walk

If you have already seen this image on Instagram or Facebook of a sudden and unexpected sunset at the end of my Aberystwyth amble, then you can enjoy it again here. I was sitting in my car eating sandwiches before my two hour drive home and when I turned my head to look out to sea, this is what I saw. I immediately jumped out of the car and grabbed my camera from the boot – a good job I was quick too as a minute later the sun had disappeared again.Continue reading→

Aberystwyth Framed

I like this shot of Aberystwyth framed by one of the structures on the beach – not the pier but another walkway that extends out into the waves. The variation of scale or perception of it is one of the most interesting things to me, with the heavy concrete pillars in the foreground and the buildings appearing almost like toys or models in front of the massive scale of the hill directly behind.Continue reading→

My walk this week is on Aberystwyth seafront and from the overcast weather depicted you would not believe that half an hour earlier the sun had been shining and the sky blue. Neither was it raining at the time these photos were taken – but I still got soaked as I walked along the beach!
