While walking around York railway station on my walk this week I saw an increasing number of photographers hanging around – then, to my surprise, the Scarborough Express steam train arrived – which explained everything.
I had been focusing on some of the architectural details and perspectives of the station, enjoying the rib cage of arches and columns. I was using my iPhone for the photography and so was able to switch to video mode in an instant to capture the arrival of the old train, though I missed the point at which it let off steam prior to setting off again. This was such a noisy affair that everyone in the station had their fingers in their ears!
What a wonderful but noisy surprise! I love the curves in the roof of the station.

Thank you. I love those curves too. My favourite shot is from my first post of the week – the first shot where the arches look like the rib cage of some giant creature.
