Lifting the Mood – Last of the Monotone

Yesterday’s official opening of the StillWalks project exhibition “Sights and Sounds of the Countryside” went very well. It was busy enough for me to forget to get photographs and with the preparations beforehand, I also forget to arrange for photos to be taken. If you want to find out a little more, please visit the StillWalks Facebook page (and Like!). I will be reporting more on the exhibition when it finishes on 10th July.

In the meantime, here are the last of the apparently black and white photos from around the exhibition space – these first three being of the lift doors – and then on to a splash of colour from one of the chairs.

Which photos are black and white?

Continuing my exploration of the venue of the StillWalks exhibition for the Sights and Sounds of the Countryside project, here are some more shots of aspects and objects in the room other than the exhibition itself.

As with the photos in my last couple of posts, most of these photos are full colour – but not all! So, which ones are black and white?

Blind Textures – taking a closer look

This is like one of those “guess the object” games you used to see on TV where they would gradually zoom out from a close up shot of a familiar object.

Whilst the post title (and the previous post) is perhaps a give away, if you were looking at these shots out of context, they might have had you guessing. I deliberately left the section on the right of the first shot as a clear clue for anyone who thinks it is not immediately obvious what the the image shows.

The last shot is in a higher resolution so that you can get a good close look at the pattern of texture in the fabric. Click on the image to enlarge.

Blind Patterns

During a quiet time in the Sights and Sounds of the Countryside exhibition (see previous posts), I started looking around in more detail at the exhibition space (not the exhibition itself).

The sun was not shining and so the patterns of light on the floor in the room were not there (see previous post). Over the next couple of days I am going to put up what I found instead. NB This is not b & w photography – the images are a little darker than reality but I thought they were more atmospheric this way. I tried them in b & w but preferred this white balance.

A Different Viewpoint – Millennium Bridge, Swansea

The Millennium foot and cycle bridge is an attractive piece of architecture in Swansea and can bee seen from one side of the River Tawe against the backdrop of the modern development of SA1 and from the other side, against Swansea’s Maritime Quarter and the rigging of sailing boats in the marina.

You can find any number of photographs of the bridge if you Google it – perhaps these are one or two new viewpoints even if they don’t show the identifiable suspension structure.

Tulips and the Tram Shed in Cardiff

We had a very cultural day out to Cardiff a couple of days ago. Having a picnic lunch in the tulip filled gardens in front of the National Museum of Wales was bliss in the sunshine . . . and the museum itself with the current exhibitions (Julian Stairs and Pop Art) never ceases to amaze me with the fantastic collection it has.

Diffusion at the Tram Shed

The Diffusion Festival is also filling the city this month and we visited the Tram Shed to see two photography exhibitions in a fascinating venue – The Valleys Re-Presented by various artists and High Rise by Peter Bobby. I have to say I was as taken with the venue as I was with the work. One of my daughter’s lecturers had work in this show which was a good way for us to select what venue to visit amongst all that is going on in the festival.

Last but not least we visited the Chapter Arts Centre. Again, my daughter had been studying one of the artists (Maurizio Anzeri) who is exhibiting there and so it was any easy choice amongst all the galleries to choose from.

Margam Castle and Da Vinci’s Demons

My last few posts have been about the visits I made to waterfalls in the South Wales Valleys region as part of the Valleys Regional Park Community Tourism Conference. The conference was held in the Orangery at Margam Park, home of Margam Castle, one of the sets for the much anticipated Da Vinci’s Demon series. It is an amazing place and unlike the waterfalls featured in previous posts, I can for once say that I have visited Margam Park on previous occasions.

Under the Bridges and Over the Rivers

Following my CTC Waterfalls trip to Aberdulais Falls last week, we crossed the road, went under the dual carriageway and over the Rivers Dulais and Neath as well as Neath Canal to get views of all three – the bridges themselves gave some good views!
