I assume these torn screens were supposed to stop dust and debris getting out rather than stopping me looking in, but they seem to have come pretty close to the end of their life!

Anatomy of the Beast – Fantasy and Reality
It was easy for me to think of and describe the images of yesterdays post in living terms. Is this the belly of the beast below, and its throat? My assumption that the industry was steel was correct but without more specific knowledge of the plant, I could not name the various parts of its anatomy.
I took a look at the site of these photos on Google Maps – it is very different as you would expect. I was able to put a name to the company as well – all this weeks photos are from the steel processing plant of Celsa Steel UK in Cardiff.
A Mother of Industry
This huge industrial structure of ducts looks to me like a giant metal insect sitting on and protecting its brood.
The yellow “veins” of the “creature” allow the “worker colony” to get about the complex.
And below, a sign of real life flies overhead.
Monochrome Steps
I like the hi-vis colour of the staircases in the industrial area of Cardiff but this first shot cried out for the monochrome treatment. Another of these can be seen on the Monochrome Madness 39 blog post of Leanne Cole Photography
It's Not Rocket Science
It is not a rocket but I assume this huge structure is some kind of furnace. I confess I am more interested in its appearance than its function but I will try to find out – unless anybody out there can tell me and save me the trouble!
Elevated Industry
Most people would agree that there is not much beauty in an industrial landscape but regardless of that, I find myself fascinated by some of the structures, shapes, forms, textures and colours to be found there.
This elevated pipeline is one I have been intrigued by for many years as I have passed by in the car. I had the opportunity recently to stop and take photos of it and some of the other industrial buildings connected to it.
Celebrating Dylan Thomas
In celebration of the centenary of the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, I thought I would post a second time today with a link to my StillWalks video “Cwmdonkin Walk – Autumn”. The park in Swansea was a significant feature in Dylan’s life and has seen some notable improvements in the last year to celebrate his centenary.
I have upgraded the normal sample version of the video to the full length at a higher resolution and hope that you will enjoy it as much as those people using it on a daily basis.

Columns and Context
I like the arrangement of these lighting columns in Cardiff Bay but to put them properly in context you need to look at the wider picture at the bottom of this post.
I thought the dark lump on the glass discs in the second image was something nasty but on closer inspection, it looks like it is a lump of moss . . . so that’s one for the Moss Appreciation Society!
