The sun goes down on Galloway, SW Scotland.
It’s different every time. No matter how many times you see it, the sunset is never the same, and there is never any tiring of it!

The news is I have just had a short article about StillWalks published in our local press. It is also online at
Why not check it out and then take a closer look at the StillWalks website.
Two more photos from Galloway in South West Scotland. This changeable, unpredictable weather thing has been going on for quite a while . . . forever in Britain! These are from 2008.
My recent Production Day post about how quickly the weather can change these days reminded me of some photography I had done a few years ago in South West Scotland. I guess any outdoor photography has an element of weather to it but these photos are quite a personal reminder of a place I love and don’t see often enough. These, amongst other images play across my large iMac screen as a screensaver in the background when I have to work on my laptop. They were taken on my old Fuji compact but are effective nonetheless.
More to come through the week. Also, visit The Ambiguity of Fences for some more images from my own Lliw Lower Reservoir production day.
This is the final image from this short series and just about my favourite. This may be because of the weaving part of my life (see www. acmd.co.uk) and my enthusiasm for texture and fibre.
The image seems to loose some of its depth and become more a network of fibres on a more two dimensional plain, albeit with heavy texture. I’m not sure that the fact there is snow involved makes any difference either – the “fibres” would still be there without it, perhaps less defined by lower contrast.
I wrote “tangled fibres” originally but changed it to “network of fibres” because I realised that they are not tangled but have structure and direction, all feeding into the centre of the frame. I cannot say, now, if this was coincidental or intentional – I suspect subconsciously intentional with my artist/weaver’s eye searching out the structures and patterns before taking the shot.
The return route I took – the fences, whether wooden or metal, are trying to emulate the trees’ crooked branches!
The light was going by the time I took this shot – the days seem so short at this time of year.

Image number 2 from Lliw Valley Lower Reservoir StillWalks production day.
My inclination is to put up a load of the images I took at the weekend at Lliw Reservoir but that was not the intention of the shoot. The images eventually selected for a Winter StillWalk will describe the walk from start to finish and an essential part of that will be the recorded sound from the shoot – but I am not giving previews of the sound I’m afraid. Suffice to say I was very pleased with the day’s work.
If you would like to see an existing StillWalk in Winter, please take a look on the StillWalks website, the Forest Walk, Winter is the one with the snow!
