Travelling Back in Woodland Time

I have had a couple of walks in Carmarthenshire recently in spite of wet weather. During these excursions I found this dinosaur-like mossy monster. I don’t know if this woodland should be described as ancient, but it certainly seemed like it to me, and with this “creature” lurking there it seemed even more as though I had gone back in time.

Complementary images to my walks this week can be found directly on Instagram or via the sidebar images on the StillWalks blog. Images displayed here and on Instagram are a mixture of iPhone and Canon DSLR photography.

Part of the Landscape

Rocks and villages – I love the way the scattering of rocks in this Gower landscape seem to reflect the scattering of buildings in the village beyond.

The view is from the top of Rhossili Down looking north west across the Loughor Estuary towards Carmarthenshire. The weather is fine (at this point) and I am enjoying a beautiful production walk for a StillWalks video which, as yet, I have not managed to complete!

Distant Burial Mounds

Looking across the landscape from Carreg Cennen Castle in South Wales shows one of two pairs of ancient burial mounds visible to the eye on a distant ridge of the Black Mountain.

This area on the edge of the Brecon Beacons is beautiful and has plenty of footpaths to walk, but as yet, I have not produced a StillWalks video here.

Carreg Cennen Castle

One of the final days of a beautiful Summer found us at Carreg Cennen Castle in Carmarthenshire, South Wales. It is a magnificent ruin sitting atop  a crag of rock looking over to the Black Mountain on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons.

The first image was taken on my iPhone and the second on my Canon 550D. The first needed some cropping and both needed some light adjustment.

Black and Blue

The abstract patterns of water in the River Morlais which runs through Troserch Woodland in Carmarthenshire, Wales.

If I had used these images, it would have been in the second StillWalks video I made in the Troserch area. The first was through the woodland (see below) and the other was walking from the woodland, across the fields by the river and back to civilisation.

Sepia Footbridge

I mostly work with colour images but now and then I find one that I think benefits from the monochrome treatment. I have a preference for the sepia effect but usually prefer to create this myself rather than use a ready made filter.

This footbridge is featured in the StillWalks video below – Troserch Woodland Walk – but not this shot of it and not in monochrome.

This monochrome (sepia) image is also featured in the Leanne Cole Photography’s Monochrome Madness blog post for today. Thanks, Leanne, for that – another great post 🙂

Old Wood

I don’t know how much, if any, of Troserch Woodland is ancient but it is a beautiful place to walk and the cycle of growth and decay is inevitable in all woodland let alone anywhere else.

Below are two more images that didn’t make it into the StillWalks video below – “Troserch Woodland Walk”

Horses at Sunrise

The Troserch Woodland Walk StillWalks video features a horse – but not this one! Perhaps more importantly, it features the sound of a horse in the early morning.

These are the first of a set of images that didn’t make it into the video which can be seen below.
