The Meridian Tower is the main structure that can be identified in this misty, murky shot across Swansea Bay from Mumbles. So ends a week of photos taken in dull, damp weather – I hope you have enjoyed them in spite of the weather.
A gallery of all the images I have posted this week can be seen below.
For some reason I had the impulse to process this image in sepia tone. Adding a bit of grain, it is given an aged look (as sepia does), as if it were a shot of Swansea Bay from Mumbles taken a century ago. Of course there are a number of tell tale signs that this could not be the case. The most obvious is perhaps the wind turbine.
This image relates to a colour version of the photo I posted here recently from a winter walk at Lliw Lower Reservoir – there is not a lot of difference! The image is included in Monochrome Madness 44 on Leanne Cole Photography blog.
The woodland becomes almost completely monochrome under its blanket of snow. I love the complexity of pattern and texture revealed in these snowy woodland shots around the Lliw Lower Reservoir near Swansea.
Seen from the Roman road I have been walking along in Carmarthenshire, this view shows a small patch of the landscape in which it is set. Even though the tree in the foreground cuts across the view, I feel that it still does the job of somehow framing the scene, putting the scale and perspective in context.
The monochrome shot of the fence posts is more of a detail of the landscape. Apart from changing it to monochrome I had do some further work on the image. I liked the stance of the fence posts and the tangled texture of the barbed wire but there were one or two distracting objects in the background field that needed removing. One of them was positioned behind the fence and proved a challenge to remove satisfactorily. Generally I make image adjustments in Lightroom but for more detailed work like that I would open the shot in Photoshop.
Complementary images to my walks this week can be found directly on Instagram or via the sidebar images on the StillWalks blog. Images displayed here and on Instagram are a mixture of iPhone and Canon DSLR photography.
This apparently disused railway line is fact one of the entry and exit routes for deliveries to and from the steel processing plant I have been looking at all week – see the gallery below.
I like the hi-vis colour of the staircases in the industrial area of Cardiff but this first shot cried out for the monochrome treatment. Another of these can be seen on the Monochrome Madness 39 blog post of Leanne Cole Photography
