My walk this week ends with another cloudy sunset. We were mostly lucky with the weather on our Autumn holiday in Scotland. Of course I took many more pictures than I have shown here this week but these are a selection of the most enjoyable ones for our surroundings during that time.
Equal to the spectacular sunsets we had on holiday in Galloway, Scotland, were the cloudscapes. Some, as with this the photos below, appeared at the end of the day. Further into the night the clouds continued to provide us with atmosphere in front of the moon, to say nothing of the reflections in water.
The photos for my walk this week span the two weeks we spent on holiday in Scotland at the end of September. One of the best things about the place we stay in Galloway is the sunsets and arriving late in the day it was one of the first things we enjoyed.
I have posted a total of 14 images of The Kelpies as part of my walk this week and that may well be too many for most of you. However, I have reviewed them sequentially on a number of occasions in posting to this blog and found that they serve me with a good memory. There are aspects of our visit to The Helix, specifically to see these sculptural installations in the Scottish landscape, that I am pleased to have enhanced by the images. The fall of changing light as the sun began to set, the details of pattern and reflection in the structures and a hint at the true scale of the work in relation to myself and the surrounding landscape.
So for those who read these posts as well as those who only look at the images, I make no excuses for the number of photos of these magnificent horses and recommend that if you get the chance, they are worth a visit.
Still at The Helix to see The Kelpies on my walk this week, I have been looking at some details of these metal equine structures in the Scottish landscape. The setting sun was good to me!
The sand of Colwyn Bay beach was full of linear patterns familiar to anyone living near the sea. As the sun dipped lower and lower on my walk this week, the patterns became more pronounced and however often I may have seen these kinds of sand patterns, they are not something of which I could ever grow tired.
The sun was going down on my walk across the beach at Colwyn Bay and as it did so, the light subtly changed. There was some hazy cloud cover in the west and so the contrast of light and shade quite never disappeared, but still had an effect on the atmosphere as well as my camera settings. The patterns in the construction of the pier were always there along with the colour, more or less strengthened by the sunlight.
Heading home from my day at The Waterside, I was surprised and delighted to be driving across the Welsh hills and into a fantastic sunset. The colour, light and shade typified the mixed weather from the start of the day to the end.
The soundscape below may not fit perfectly with the sequence of photos if you listen and view them at the same time, but it is not meant to be StillWalks video but hopefully it will help to give you a better sense of that beautiful, secluded South Wales valley.
