Windy Walk, Dorset
Not everybody likes the wind but I, personally, don’t have a problem with it – I even like it on occasion.
This StillWalk takes place on a very windy hillside in Dorset, S.W. England. There is not much more sound in it than the wind!
What am I saying, of course there is – my footsteps walking through grass or on a lane, opening and closing gates, climbing over stiles – and of course the wind sounds themselves change with its strength, the kind of trees around, my position in relation to it and the landscape.

Climbing to the Top
Yesterday afternoon I had the need to get on top of things. Without going into details, the answer for me was to climb our local mountain, Graig Fawr.
Even on the lower slopes of the mountain you get a great view over the valley but as I climbed higher this view got better and better. Skylarks twittered above me and I got a good close view of a pair of Red Kites. Up on top the wind was exhilarating and, at least momentarily, my troubles were blown away. Seeing the land and the weather on this scale has a tendency to put other issues into perspective.
Despite its name (fawr means big in Welsh), the mountain is only small but for all that you get a great view over four or five counties in South Wales. I had deliberately not taken my cameras or sound kit as it was the walk and the climb that I needed. However, I couldn’t resist taking one or two shots on my phone. I have not produced a StillWalk on Graig Fawr yet but I think that time is coming soon.

Activity in Swansea Bay
One of the nice things about Swansea Bay – There doesn’t appear to be a lot of human activity in these photos but the beach stretches round from the harbour wall at the eastern end right round to Mumbles at the other end. The result of this is that, even when there are a lot of people down there, it doesn’t feel crowded because there is so much space.
The first three images here seemed to me to suit being in black and white, though the following two are not far off it either! In fact Swansea Bay can be quite a colourful place when the sun is out as you can begin to see in yesterday’s post.

It was a cold but bright day in Swansea Bay the other day – a good opportunity to get some more shots in towards figuring out a suitable route for a StillWalk in the Maritime Quarter of the city.
Knowing a place can sometimes make this task more difficult and I have been meaning to produce a StillWalks here for a while now. Maybe I will have worked it out by the time some warmer weather comes around!

Down on the Marshes
I managed to get a short walk out at lunchtime on Friday – down to our local marshes. I hadn’t been there for a little while and was reminded of the StillWalks I have produced such as the Old Churchyard Walk (on the Summer Walks page). Despite the sound of traffic in the background, it still one of my favourite local walks.
This week I am going to focus on some of the images from that video but start with the couple of shots I took on my iPhone yesterday.
