Hill Mist – Reviewing the Walk

You may have noticed that I have recently changed the title of these end of the week posts to “Reviewing the Walk” rather than “Reviewing the Week”. It seems such an obvious thing to do, I don’t understand why I haven’t done it sooner.

This weeks misty walk on the hills ends with a view over the town that shows the mist is still lingering there. I foundContinue reading

A Field of Fog and Fences

When I arrived at the highest point of my walk this week and rose above the fog, I was taken completely by surprise. Despite having walked through the mist, I hadn’t expected to see such a solid looking wall of it completely blocking the view I would normally have over the Loughor estuary and beyond to the Gower peninsula.

However, on turning my eyes to the north, the scene was clearer and the last wisps of mist were Continue reading

Lonely Atmosphere

The sun was trying hard on my walk this week, to lift, or at least thin the thick mist that surrounded me and obscured so many details of the landscape. The foreboding atmosphere of the holloway footpath in yesterday’s post is repeated here with this naked tree at the edge of a field.

But as becomes apparent in the photos below, the mist is also influenced by a breeze and is therefore constantly moving. Continue reading

Reviewing the Walk – Snowdonia Recce

This was one of my last views on my recce walk through the Lledr Valley in Snowdonia, North Wales. I didn’t manage to do any field recording on this walk so I am afraid there is no soundscape again this week, but a sequence of selected photos from through the week can be viewed below.

The Route to Come

These three photos were taken at the end of my recce walk in the Lledr Valley in Snowdonia, North Wales. They were all taken on my iPhone but I can’t remember why! I processed the second shot in monochrome because it seemed to better represent the wildness of the place as I perceived it in the worsening weather.

Vague Vista

As I climbed above the valley floor along a moss-lined lane, it would have been good to get a better view of the distant mountains around Blaenau Ffestiniog in North Wales. Alas, on a day such as this, that was never going to be possible.

My Walk this Week – North Wales Recce 2

My walk this week is from my second recent recce walk in North Wales, specifically the Lledr valley south of Blaenau Ffestiniog – there’s a name for you to have fun with if you’re not Welsh 🙂 The beautiful evening of the day before in Colwyn Bay did not follow through to this walk and the result was that I got very wet.

Constructing the Changes and Reviewing the Week

This may seem an odd image with which to end my walk this week but it is a fact that new building is constant. Fortunately I am still able to rise above it (literally) by walking higher up the hill from which the residents of these houses regularly get to enjoy beautiful sunsets.

My short soundscape this week reflects all aspects of the walk. Listen to it while viewing my selection of the images I’ve posted through the week.
