Up and Down in Edinburgh

Before my walk this week on a planned day out in Edinburgh, I asked my uncle what might be the best thing to go see and he answered “Just go and see the place itself – it is all on different levels and that is one of it’s main attractions as a city“.

Water of Leith

Water of Leith

He was right! Walking from the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art revealed several different levels. Looking down on the Water of Leith or through an narrow alley-way from above, and then walking uphill towards Princes Street in the city centre, we were able to enjoy the architecture of houses and streets quite different to our own local city scenery.

Sitting in the sunshine in Princes Gardens and looking up at Edinburgh Castle could give you a sore neck but the view of the huge lump of rock on which the castle stands is impressive from the beautiful surroundings of the park.
