Agricultural Show 3 – Equine Evaluation
My last post from our local agricultural show is about the equine presentation and evaluation, an event always to be enjoyed. Unfortunately there was no show jumping this year and as a result the crowds were thinner than I have known in the past.
I enjoy watching the horses and miss the events I used to regularly photograph. As with the other animals in the show, the ponies and horses are all immaculately turned out and the riders are doing their very best to gain that red first rosette.Continue reading
Agricultural Show 2 – Grilled To Perfection
Our local agricultural show features many different events and exhibits some of which were grilled to perfection! I should say groomed to perfection as the time an effort people put into presenting their animals or artefacts is obvious. But my take on the show today features old tractors and cars belonging to local enthusiasts and it is the patterns of grills in particular that I focused on.
M F or Massey Ferguson is a well known manufacturer of tractors going way back, but there were others as well and whatever the colour of their paint, including the bright pink of one of the old Austin cars, it was their grills, or perhaps I should say grins, that interested me.Continue reading
The Horns Have It at the Agricultural Show
The horns were my first focus of attention as I walked round our local agricultural show. There are any number of these shows during the Summer and ours comes at the end.
The weather was good enough (dry) and the sheep were panting away in their stalls as they waited to go on show and be judged. If the winning feature were horns, I’d give it to these two fine pairs below in black and white.Continue reading

Focusing minds, making connections
My walk this week is follows the lakeside at The Waterside, a place ideal for focusing your mind, making connections and reflecting on the discoveries that can be made there. Discoveries may be as straightforward as observations of the nature in this hidden Welsh valley – more likely they will be deeper still than that.
Whether I am simply amused by the alpacas or excited by the play of light on water in either rain or shine, the conversations I have here are always valuable. Being away from the normal working environment (however much I like my studio) and coming to a place where new and different connections can be seen and made all around me, helps to bring clarity to my mind. I look forward to my next visit on 1st July, another First Friday event.

I produced the first 4k version of a StillWalks video and I can’t wait to see it on The Waterside’s 55″ UHD screen!

Reviewing the Walk – Snowdonia Recce
This was one of my last views on my recce walk through the Lledr Valley in Snowdonia, North Wales. I didn’t manage to do any field recording on this walk so I am afraid there is no soundscape again this week, but a sequence of selected photos from through the week can be viewed below.
Downhill Through the Woods
Returning to the car on my recce walk this week took me through a section of pinewoods and is not the planned return route for the production walk I hope to do next week. See the event on the website for details of the walk if you are going to be in the area.
