Having descended from the hills on my walk this week, I came eventually to the River Dulais. The footbridge across the river at this point in the valley is not the most attractive of bridges, being more functional than decorative, but it still has an attraction for me and not least for the old but solid rusty, mossy colour and texture.

Horsey Horsey
Climbing to the top of the hill on my walk this week the surface underfoot was stone at one of the steepest parts of the route. As the track is used frequently by horse riders, I have often wondered how the horses cope with this section as it can get slippery when wet (which is often the case in Wales!).
Having reached the top, the friendly horse that currently shares a field with a couple of donkeys, came over to greet me. I enjoy taking a short break in my walk up there where I can take in the landscape around me and it is good to have a quiet conversation with the horse – he really is a lovely animal!
Remnants – Finders Keepers
I couldn’t stop myself grabbing some of this old rusty metal coil I found on a stony beach near an old harbour as I took a walk along the shore during our holiday in Scotland. I am sure that this and some other old bits and pieces of metal I found will make some interesting images and sounds – just as soon as I can find the time to experiment!
Wildness Becalmed
The wind that produced the wildness in the growth of this tree was becalmed on this day of our holiday in Scotland. The wild hawthorn trees that take this form are wonderful descriptions of the weather and the bleak looking hill in the background are not a place you would wish to be in foul weather.
But this day was completely still and everything in the landscape and seascape held a tranquility and peace that for all we knew could have been the precursor to a storm.
Cloudscapes and Reflections
Equal to the spectacular sunsets we had on holiday in Galloway, Scotland, were the cloudscapes. Some, as with this the photos below, appeared at the end of the day. Further into the night the clouds continued to provide us with atmosphere in front of the moon, to say nothing of the reflections in water.
My Walk this Week – starting the week with a sunset
The photos for my walk this week span the two weeks we spent on holiday in Scotland at the end of September. One of the best things about the place we stay in Galloway is the sunsets and arriving late in the day it was one of the first things we enjoyed.
Getting Stuck on the Worm’s Head
Firstly I should say that this has not happened to me! However, people getting cut off by the tide and stuck on the Worm’s Head at the end of the Gower Peninsula is a regular occurrence and one which requires the RNLI to launch their boat from the Port Eynon station to rescue them. During last month’s Taste of Gower walk we called in at the local RNLI station for a talk by one of their members.
The next ToG walk is this coming Friday and will be at Rhossili from where we will be able to look out to the Worm’s Head as we walk out along the cliffs. This is also a fundraising walk for The Old Mill Foundation.
