My walk this week was a spur of the moment visit to the National Botanic Garden of Wales – worthwhile for the thick growth inside and out at this time of year.
The lakeside flowers, kitchen garden and double walled garden were blooming well and if I could only present the scents as well as the sights and sounds, the sensory picture would be almost complete.Only the textures would remain and although of often talk about visual texture, this can be deceptive. A few of the plants in the Great Glass House looked as though they would feel soft and furry but the I stroked my hand through their greenery, I found they were much coarser than I had expected.
The sounds of the Great Glass House are dominated by the fans that continuously run in the background but there are plenty of birds to hear as well. However, the more tranquil ambience of the Japanese water garden outside are preferable I think. One sound was common to each environment – that of children and other people.
