Which structure to focus on? That was the question for me with this view over the lake at Llyn Llech Owain in Carmarthenshire. The portrait view could only include one tower. My choice was less about the scale of the architecture and more about the fact that the larger structure was partly hidden by the small trees in the middle distance. With the lake being partly hidden by the trees, there seems to me to be a greater sense of mystery about the scene.
This apparently disused railway line is fact one of the entry and exit routes for deliveries to and from the steel processing plant I have been looking at all week – see the gallery below.
This huge industrial structure of ducts looks to me like a giant metal insect sitting on and protecting its brood.
The yellow “veins” of the “creature” allow the “worker colony” to get about the complex.
And below, a sign of real life flies overhead.
The structure and purpose is basically the same even if the name and end product is different. The first photo shows an oven inside the walls of Carreg Cennen Castle. The second shows two of a set of three linked lime kilns situated outside the main walls of the castle.
The architecture of the main entertainment block in Park Tawe, Swansea, could not be said to be very inspiring. There is a covered walkway over to the centre of town which is purely functional in its design.
However, viewed from the right angles and in the right conditions, some great patterns can be seen. Even the peeling paint on the underside creates a kind of two tone map of some imaginary archipelago.
I love the complex patterns created by the scaffolding on this construction site in Swansea. I have no idea what the new building will look like but it will be sitting beside the interesting patterns to be seen in the design of the BT tower across the road.
The BT tower is not a particularly attractive building – it looks a bit like something you would need to plug in for your phone. There are, however, many fascinating shapes, patterns, reflections to be seen in its surfaces and structure.
