My Walk this Week – Project Recce Walk, Bishopston Valley

My walk this week follows one of the routes we will be taking on a schools project this Autumn. A recce had to be made and a risk assessment done and in Bishopston Valley on the South Gower coast there are plenty of risks, particularly when it has been wet.

But nothing ventured, nothing gained and the young 13 and 14 year olds we will be taking along this exciting footpath will hopefully enjoy the challenge. Continue reading

My Walk this Week – Cwmdu Walk Part 3

My walk this week shows the third and final section of my walk near Cwmdu which lies between the Brecon Beacons and The Black Mountains in Wales. The route, shortened due to lack of time as a result of StillWalks production work along the way, provided me with a steep descent back to the valley floor.

Although the footpath was dry, it was still slippery with stones as will be evident in the soundscape to be posted later in the week. The hillside being steep meant that I had some great views Continue reading

Cwmdu Walk Part 2

My Walk this Week – Cwmdu Walk Part Two

The second part of my circular walk from the valley above Cwmdu near Crickhowell in Wales, took me up to the top of Mynydd Llangorse.

En route I met a sheep that stuck its tongue out at me! Having climbed up the valley, Cwm Sorgwm, to the shoulder between Mynydd Troed and Mynydd Llangorse, I rested for a few moments before climbing the steep section up to what I thought was the top. Continue reading

My Walk this Week – Cwmdu Part 1

My walk this week is not actually around Cwmdu, a small village lying between the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains in Wales. In fact it is in the valley above Cwmdu, a valley called Cwm Sorgwm (according to the OS map.

Cwm Sorgwm and Mynydd Troed

Back in June I took the opportunity to explore a small part of the hills in this area near Crickhowell. Knowing I was going to have enough time to do it as a StillWalks production walk, I took all my kit and enjoyed the weather and the views. Continue reading

My Walk this Week – Forest Walkabout

Back in Wales again and I am enjoying my familiar walks in the local forest. I say familiar, but it always seems there is something new to see and hear.

Forest view

I was recently surprised to find a path I was unfamiliar with, noticing it only because I was walking in the opposite direction to that which I would normally and being in a part of the woods I visit less frequently. Continue reading

My Walk this Week – On the Edge

organ on beach

On my walk this week I would like to show some of what we experienced and enjoyed during our time away in the last few weeks. Above is an unusual sight – it’s not often you find an old organ on a beach, but this was part of an art installation called Edge by two artists commissioned as part of the Spring Fling weekend event in South West Scotland. Jo Hodges and Robbie Coleman Continue reading

My Walk this Week, Past Walks 6 – Salt Marshes

Marsh path 2010

My walk this week is the last of six walks from the past (2010 in this instance) and takes another look back at a place I love to walk, namely our local salt marsh on the River Loughor estuary. I posted a couple of weeks ago about this marsh in 2011 but the experience and images were quite different to those I am posting about the place just one year before. Continue reading
