My walk this week looks and listens to some botanical beauty in Swansea’s Singleton Park. It is late Spring and new arrangements have been made in the formal garden and the colours abound in the less formal areas.
Swansea Botanic Gardens
The hot-house is exotic with the blooming of enormous bright flowers and the sound of running water accompanies the humidity in one section while fading away in the cactus house. The twisting paths both inside and out give a sense of exploration and discovery as you round a corner or enter a “tunnel” and find another colourful viewpoint or vista.

Sitting in the peacefulness of the arranged beds, listening to the birds and the gentle hoeing of the gardeners, or wandering around those twisting paths on a beautiful sunny Spring day, there is a sense of separation from the hubbub of the world.

I thoroughly enjoyed the serenity and beauty of this visit to the Swansea Botanic Gardens, Alastair. I always appreciate the numerous dimensions you bring with the visual and sound, and the arrangement that you present. Enjoyed the rushing water, the hoeing sounds, and in the last 15-20 beats I was delighted to hear the melodic bird songs. Your keen sense of texture came through as an additional dimension, with the overview of the spikey round cacti, the fluffy too; the twisted tree trunk. I found the photo of the sundial especially attractive, the shadow of the dial so clear, the angle that you took it, the curve. Always a joy to be here, Alastair, thanks so much.
Thank you Jet, as always I am so pleased you enjoyed it. Now I have to admit to a small cheat – the sound recording was done the day after the photos were taken! This is something I try hard to avoid because things can change so much, but that’s just the way it worked out this time. It also meant I got the sound of the gardeners hoeing, which I love and wouldn’t have heard the day before thanks again
