My Walk this Week 156 – Springtime Hill

My walk this week follows an uphill route I have climbed many times in the past but on a sunny Springtime morning felt really fresh and new. Atop the hill the view was very hazy for me and the crow below and I could see across to the far side of the valley and area of woodland that is being harvested for its conifers. My walks through those woods will never be the same again and while I knew that some day the trees would be felled, I feel very sad about it.

Crow with a view

The sunlight and life of this walk on Goppa Hill had no sadness to it and as I walked up the hollow way I was surprised to meet a goat which I thought had a somewhat “knowing” smile on its face. What it knew I cannot say but he appeared to be welcoming enough to a stranger and let me pass on by to say hello to a group of playful young cows in the field above.

Goppa Walk Soundscape

Listen to the soundscape above through headphones (if you can) while browsing the images below, and you will more easily hear the subtle details of this unseasonably warm springtime hillside walk.

    • Thank you yes it was a good walk. It was good to have that bit of early Summer – as long as it was not the only bit of Summer we get this year

  1. Another delightful walk through the countryside, Alastair, complete with sound effects too. I enjoyed hearing the bird singing (kind of whistling), and the rushing water, footsteps, and cawing crow. It’s probably the “crow with a view” featured in your photo. And I always like hearing the creaking gate. Photos are lovely, and that smiling goat is definitely smiling! No other word for it. Great walk, and much enjoyed, Alastair, thank you.

    • Thank you Jet. I suggested the goat’s smile was very “knowing” – another word I might have used is “smirk” . I suggested headphones for this soundscape because it was the quieter background sounds that really set the scene for me, of a quietly working valley with human and animal activities mixed on a sunny countryside Spring morning. I’m pleased you enjoyed it
