My Walk this Week 179 – Sunrise Along the Estuary

An early morning walk at sunrise isn’t so very early at this time of year and my walk this week along the Loughor Estuary ended up taking more of the day than I expected. It also fuelled my mind and the day ahead.

marsh grass at sunrise

We have had so much rain lately that a bright sunny morning was most welcome (as it is anytime in Wales). The sun rose over the fields and across the marshes as I walked towards the open estuary where I could enjoy the wide open space with the tide out and the sky reflecting on the still water left by the sea.

When I reached a point where I could go no further without wading through water, I turned and caught the view of a long train of trucks crossing the 11 arched bridge that crosses the Loughor river. From there I headed back towards the marshes – along the lanes, under the railway bridge, past the farms and back to my favourite marsh grasses.

Estuary Soundscape

The sound of that train is not included in the soundscape above but if you watch the video below you may just be able to hear it trundling across the bridge.

So click the play button or soundscape title above to listen and then the first image below to see the full images in sequence (not available like this on the mobile WordPress Reader in which case click the Visit button via the … menu or open in your mobile’s internet browser – NB you will need to open the sound file and images in separate browser tabs).

  1. It was a complete delight to join you on your estuary walk, Alastair. The scenes and sounds were wonderful, with the rising sun, open space, textures and cheerful birdsong. I found the video enchanting, with the elegant old bridge and the train cars disappearing into the horizon. Wonderful, as always. Thank you.
