The weather we enjoyed while in Scotland was very mixed, but that is OK because whether the sunsets are with clear skies or the days are wild and windy, the constantly changing conditions are one of the main attractions. Continue reading

Local Lichen and Spirit of Place
The local lichen on the rocks along the shore where we stayed in Scotland recently, seems to me to capture the spirit of the place (tough and hairy!?!). Then there is also the hawthorn and the things people do with stones on the beach Continue reading
Forest Formation
My walk this week is from 2010 but the post title “Forest Formation” does not refer to the past of the trees so much as the rocky ridge feature near the footpath that I often like to sit on and soak up the atmosphere of the place. Continue reading
Aberystwyth Amble – Reviewing the Walk
If you have already seen this image on Instagram or Facebook of a sudden and unexpected sunset at the end of my Aberystwyth amble, then you can enjoy it again here. I was sitting in my car eating sandwiches before my two hour drive home and when I turned my head to look out to sea, this is what I saw. My Walk this Week – Aberystwyth Seafront
My walk this week is on Aberystwyth seafront and from the overcast weather depicted you would not believe that half an hour earlier the sun had been shining and the sky blue. Neither was it raining at the time these photos were taken – but I still got soaked as I walked along the beach!

Love and Natural Patterns
Heading back from one of my shore walks during our holiday in Scotland I came across these two dragonfly lovers who were obliging enough to stay still while I did my best with my iPhone to get in close – I guess they were too preoccupied to bother about me. I had been taking photos of rock patterns but much as I enjoyed doing that, this opportunity was one not to be missed and made my day.
Waves of Stone
Having first visited Nash Point Lighthouse on my walk this week, we actually started our circular walk at site of the StillWalks production “Breakers Walk”. From there we walked along the cliff tops back towards the Nash Point. The tide was out and the view over the wave platforms of this stretch of the South Wales coast were incredible. The patterns of those waves of stone were so clear – it was as though time had frozen still and allowed the structures to form in an instant.
