Far and Near – A Look at the Land

Here is a view of a place I have not seen from this angle before – looking over Hendy from one of my evening walks. I have done the walk many times but never ventured quite so far into the field on the hill. The 11 arched railway bridge over the River Loughor can be seen from other vantage points but none of them have the same green landscape in the foreground – buildings and telegraph lines tend to get in the way.

Snapped on my iPhone, I made the mistake of zooming in – just slightly, but it was still a mistake. Always crop afterwards if need be, but don’t use the zoom function as it is digital, not optical and the effect is a blurred image. I’ve done my best with it.

I did not use the zoom function in the close up of a thistle in the field – I didn’t need to. There were loads of them, the tallest I have seen!

Walking Among the Flowers

Cow Parsley and Columbine – my StillWalks production along the “Floral Walk” at Pembrey Country Park in Carmarthenshire, Wales last Summer ended back in the car park which hidden in a clearing in the woods.

The walk was beautiful and the only thing that interrupted the peacefulness of the place was the intermittent sound of jet fighters flying overhead on exercises! As soon as I finish the video I will make it available on the StillWalks website and it may need to include the sound of those jet planes in places!

Playing Soldiers and Marking Time – Pembrey Seed Heads

We used to have games of “soldiers” with these Ribwort Plantains when we were young – trying in turn to knock the head off each others “soldier”. Perhaps decapitate would be a more accurate term!

And of course everyone tells the time by the Dandelion seed head – what other way is there to do it?

It may be a common wild flower, but that doesn’t make it any less pretty – another photo from the Pembrey Country park “Floral Walk” in Carmarthenshire, Wales.

Rolling Out

Rolling out, unfurling, opening up – call it what you will. At the end of May these plants in Pembrey Country Park were getting ready for Summer.

Pembrey Floral Walk

In May 2013 I did a StillWalks production walk at Pembrey Country Park in Carmarthenshire, Wales. The production followed what Pembrey calls its Floral Walk.

The photos I am posting this week are from this StillWalks production which, as yet, has not been post-produced or published. I won’t bother going into the reasons for this but hope that you enjoy a Welsh woodland floral week on the blog.

Lakeside Views and Workday Walking

This urban lake is situated in Swansea’s Enterprize Park at Llansamlet and I have been meaning to take a StillWalks recce walk around it for a long time. I had a meeting to go to at the Mercure Hotel which is very close by and so I took the opportunity of going early and taking my camera with me.

The people working in the area are very lucky to have such a lovely spot to relax during a break and take a little exercise – I wonder how many of take advantage of it?

The Road to Borgue and Back Again

My walk along the Borgue road in Galloway, SW Scotland, was about an 8 mile round trip. This rusty bench was at the side of the road at my turning point, just above Kirkandrews. Old but not out of use, it was a welcome resting place for a few minutes.

Maybe next time round I make do a StillWalks production day of it and capture the sounds as well as the sights.
