The local lichen on the rocks along the shore where we stayed in Scotland recently, seems to me to capture the spirit of the place (tough and hairy!?!). Then there is also the hawthorn and the things people do with stones on the beach Continue reading

At an End of the Garden
The image above is of a old gate set in one of the high walls of Cally Gardens in Scotland. We always visit the gardens when in Scotland but on this occasion discovered that the man who ran them, Michael Wickenden, had died while hunting for plants in Myanmar, and that the gardens are to be sold.Continue reading
Park and Marshes, Past Walks 6 – Reviewing the walk
Back in the park again at the end of my walk from June 2010 to our local salt marshes and at the other end of the park to the oak woods. The park has two playing fields as well as a rugby ground next to it – these plus the oak woods, a playground, Continue reading
Beauty and the Beast
It could be said that the image above, taken on my return from the salt marsh to the park on this my sixth and final walk from the past, depicts a beauty and a beast. However, while the beauty the post title refers to could be said to be the thistle or any of the natural environment of this walk, the reference to the beast Continue reading
Up Close and Grassy
One of the main features on my walks on our local salt marsh back in 2010 was the marsh grass, their profusion and tallness. Hopefully they will return permanently to their former glory. Continue reading
My Walk this Week, Past Walks 6 – Salt Marshes
My walk this week is the last of six walks from the past (2010 in this instance) and takes another look back at a place I love to walk, namely our local salt marsh on the River Loughor estuary. I posted a couple of weeks ago about this marsh in 2011 but the experience and images were quite different to those I am posting about the place just one year before. Continue reading
Carrick Shore – Reviewing the Walk
Reviewing my fifth of six walks from the past looks back to 2009 and photographs I took on my old Fuji compact camera and the sounds I recorded at the time. The sunset above is a classic of the place and is the view from the place we stay at different times each year. It is the most peaceful, quiet, environmentally friendly place you could want, but also one that, due to nature and the elements, can provide spectacular drama as well – it is “High Tide”.Continue reading
Dark Skies and Sunsets
The photographs in my posts for my walk this week from the past (2009) were taken on my old Fuji compact camera – they are not monochrome as such but the camera has a “chrome” setting on it which in the high contrast light conditions that these photos were taken, gave a quite interesting and dramatic effect. Continue reading
